On Saturday last, Herr Nohsi Henzelli went on the air publicly discussing the situation of Ashkenatza with the people. He discussed the situation with Shireroth in great detail, going so far as to call for the "[burning of] Shireroth and their vile altars to that pagan degenerate Malarbor." Currently, since war was declared upon Shireroth in Nohsibafel XX, discussions concerning the future of relations with Shireroth have not been particularly common. Henzelli recognized that this war is not a hot war, and does not seem to be showing any signs that he is soon to be throwing the full force of the army into a mad drive for Shirekeep.
Of key importance to the issue with Shireroth, the Laqi Free Republic seems to have entered negotiations with the Shirerithian government. At the same time, noted Member of the Knesset, Moshe Goltz, has begun pushing for the Ashkenatzi to host a Laqi government in exile. Henzelli has stated that, currently, the Ashkenatzi government recognizes the Laqi government as free, sovereign, and independent, and to recognize a government in exile when there isn't one would be foolish. He does seem, however, to be open to the possiblity of hosting one should disucussions concerning the future of the Laqi Free Republic go awry. Similarly, the Elwynnese, who declared their independence from Shireroth shortly after the Laqi, appear to be in discussions with Shireroth as well, though from our Shirerithian offices, it does not appear that these discussions are going to be made public any time soon, so it is impossible to gauge what is going on.
On friendlier matters, the Alexandrians reached out to Ashkenatza at precisely the right time, it seems. Not wanting to get involved with the issues facing Shireroth, the Alexandrians are concerned about their own frontiers and what they see as Antican designs on their land. The Nohsi, retaining the powers of the foreign ministry to himself, has been meeting with the Alexandrian delegate, Eva Fernandez, trying to make a mutually-beneficial treaty. There is no word yet on whether it will be a military alliance, as so far the bulk of discussion has been about friendship. Herr Secretary Fernandez did however request a recognition of Alexandria's territory, and Herr Nohsi Henzelli did say he was prepared to recognize Alexandria's territorial integrity. He does seem hesitant, however, to commit to any military obligations, as Ashkenatza and Antica are still bound by the Eagle-Bagel Pact, even if many in Ashkenatza feel the Anticans have not been keeping their end of the bargain.
